Riesling – Barefoot

Riesling – Californian – 2012

Rieslings! aren’t they supposed to be German? I was in the mood for a Riesling and I found this Californian one.

Of a beautiful pale colour, and shy aromas.

I had the impression that Rieslings were less sweet than Moscatos and that they felt more serious. As it turns out, they can be as sweet and playful.  You know, I am Moscato fan , but I had previously tried Riesling – Bree and I was expecting something like this.

I am not saying it is bad, but it is too sweet for what I was expecting.

Fruitiness: 3.4 /5

Sourness: 2.9 /5

Sweetness: 4.2 /5

Body: 3 / 10

Style: Light

[Note: Fruitiness, sourness and Sweetness, are a white wine characteristics, they do not define the quality of a wine]

Found in: Carrefour

The Overall SunShower rating is:

2.8 /5

Rating levels:

4.7 – 5.0 The finest of all!
4.0 – 4.6 Oh this is good!
3.1 – 3.9 This ok! Pleasant. But don’t be demanding.
2.3 – 3.0 Ok, this is weird.
1.0 – 2.2 Don’t try this, I already sacrificed myself for you.
0.0 – 0.9 Cannot believe there is something this disgusting.

  1. Rieslings are originally German for sure! But they’re made into great wines all around the world these days. Look out for Clare Valley ones in Australia, Alsace in France, Oregon in the US in particular. Would like to taste Barefoot’s, just out of curiosity. I’ve just published a review of one of the best rieslings I’ve probably ever tasted http://socialvignerons.com/2017/07/31/2014-domaine-zind-humbrecht-riesling-rangen-de-thann-clos-saint-urbain-alsace-grand-cru-france/ from Alsace, by the French border with Germany. Cheers 🙂
