Typhoons – The Frenzy of Wind and Rain

July 30th to July 31st

One of the reasons SunShower was born, is because I get instant urge for writing while hearing the rain drops fall. While the rain showers outside, the inspiring sun shines in.

Rain is beautiful, but it does not usually stops me from my daily routines, however typhoons are another thing. The best thing to do is to stay safe inside and not try to risk it. Although typhoons can be very dangerous, they are part of the life experience in Taiwan and cannot be separated from the adventure here.

Tonight is typhoon night. (July 30 and 31st, 2017)

a Typhoon is…

It is a meteorological depression. A storm, but just not any storm, a violent one. There will be a lot of water and strong winds. Not just any water and wind,  rain is more like water-whips, and wind is like giant of destruction.

It will rain for a span between 6 to 20 hours, depending on the size of the typhoon. But what gets really bad is the wind. Sometimes it gets so strong that the rain falls more like horizontally than vertically. I have seen it slide scooters along the street, take down advertisements posts and even rip off entire trees, taking them from theirs very roots! Yes! It gets pretty bad.

If you are wondering if typhoons, cyclones and hurricanes are the same, then let me tell you that YES! They are basically the same, the difference is just the area of the world they occur. They can all be very devastating.

Typhoons are to be respected, they flood cities, destroy towns and sometimes even take human lives with them. If one of the great typhoons come knocking your door while you are here, remember, you can never be too safe. Be prepare!

My recommendation is to get food and water, and more importantly try not to go out. I have never experience a blackout in Taiwan, but I know they happen, so you might want to prepare a flashlight and something none-electronic to be entertained with.

But…

Typhoons aren’t that bad. If you keep safe and are well prepared, you will get to be at home with a justified reason. This is why many locals actually like typhoons and sometimes receive it gladly. The national government is likely to cancel classes and work. You can check for this here: Central Wether Bureau

go to “Typhoon News” and then check if work and class have been cancelled.

Over all, the chances you live through an extreme typhoon are very slim.  They are mostly common, during August and September and although there are many, the ones that get to Taiwan are about 3-4 in a year and not every time they will affect the city where you live.

For the 8 years that I have lived in Taiwan, I have always been safe from Typhoons. It is just a matter of staying safe and once you have this much free time, try to catch up with you blog. My friend, Grexxen, wrote things to do during a typhoon last year and you might want to check out his post.

The Frenzy of Wind and Rain

Although Typhoons are really strong, I prefer to see them as a passionate moment of two lovers. Wind and Rain, desperately love each other, but because their love is so destructive, they are destined to live separately most of the year and in most places of the world. Sometimes they flirt with each other, maybe you have felt the wind’s warm touch on your face, when it drizzle in the afternoon. But then, summer comes, and low pressures in the atmosphere allows them to be together, if  just for a few hours.

I give you…

The Frenzy of Wind and Rain

By Adriana

Last year, devastating was the goodbye

as they kissed each other for the last time,

now, more than 10 months have gone by.

A love so strong full of passion and desire

silently waiting to be admired,

nothing can put down their lust on fire

During the time apart to the mountain she talks,

sometime promising to wipe clear his slopes

but he knows she cannot handle his heart full of rocks.

He, on his side, converses with the beauty river

sometimes promising to make of her a wider mirror

but she knows, a flow to wide will make humans shiver.

Strong, striking souls with  power of size abysmal

yet tenderness can be found on their touch and whistle,

maybe you felt it during your walk on the afternoon drizzle.

Every day they wait for each other restlessly

their love is intense but full of complexity

because being together brings catastrophe

But the relaxing summer days are here

bringing low pressure, like every year

with some luck, our lovers can now come near.

First they see each other over the island far away,

and the thunder sounds as if they are playing croquet.

I can see from my window that the sky is now gray.

They seduce each other with words so charming,

it starts raining with love, passion and all the yearning.

Though my window I can see that it is now violently storming

As a gentlemen he has made the first move

then she follows, blowing a kiss to approve

and we feel how the breeze has now stronger groove.

The lovers cannot take the distance any longer

in less than a second it is impossible to go and wander

’cause the passion and strength keeps getting stronger

They have only but a few hours to together spend

They have to count, they know the are condemned ,

so they forget about the world and who they might offend.

Unstoppable Rain pours while Wind loudly howls

but it filters through the window during the long night hours,

this much water is impossible to dry. I need more towels!

Don’t get them wrong, their raging destruction is  a pantomime

just a protest for being apart all this time

They want to be noticed, their love is transcendental and divine

They accomplisehd their purpose, leaving all this destruction,

but seriously, it isn’t any worse than human corruption

pulluting the oceans and air, just for a few goods production

There is no knowing when will Wind and Rain will meet again

it all goes back to normal and their love is constrain

but their passion is eternal and nothing vain.

The end.

Poem – Mr. Lizard and Mr. Mushroom

May, 2017

A poem from the challenge word “mushroom”. Proposed by the unparalleled blogger and poet Grexxen.

We all have fears and we all have a past, but they are part of us and they make us who we are.  It is partially inspired in my beautiful pets, check them out in Jupiter, the Jubilant.

A poem on the shape of AABBAA

I give you,

Mr. Lizard and Mr. Mushroom

by Adriana

.

“The sun, the sun, is it gone?

Is it time for the stars to come upon?

Uncurl and leave the lair,

time to shine and show my flair.”

He thinks to himself while smiling with a yawn.

One of those so wide as the dawn.

.

Lengthy toes with nails to complete his duty,

graceful, colorful tail of incomparable beauty,

gray, sharp eyes to move in dim twilight

yet his splendor some see with fright

“Dinner is insects and nothing fruity.”

He thinks to himself, being a little snooty.

.

“The haze in the woods make my wonder unbeatable

I must adventure in, as long as I find something eatable.

of nasty wild foxes I have to beware

but it is rain drops that give me a real scare.”

Oblivious he thinks, as the drizzle sounds repeatable.

approaching as his situation is no longer treatable.

.

Away from water he has always been

mostly keeping a dry skin.

We all know Mr. Lizards cannot swim

and if he must, he makes a face so grim

and yet he has no problems on being clean.

this is a quality you can find on all his kin.

.

Drip, drop, dribble,

sounds that makes his heart brittle.

Soon a shelter he must find,

for a the rain drops he cannot abide

“With weather like this, I cannot stay idle.

Is there perhaps a leaf where I can stay in the middle?”

.

“Drip, drop, dribble,

these water makes me feel so little.”

Then a voice says “My friend, don’t fear the flood,

take cover under my hat to avoid the mud.”

No hesitation, not even need to twiddle

without thinking he took shelter with just a wiggle.

.

He had seen creatures like this so odd

with a single tall bright mono-pod

and a wide brown hat for cover.

It is nothing new what he had discover.

Yet his uniqueness made him stare awed

“Thank you for your kindness.” He added with a nod.

.

The lizard was tiny compared to this magnificent being

anybody who sees it wouldn’t not dare on disagreeing.

This elegant mushroom of much splendor

was full of grace and yet its white trunk needed a mender.

It was many scars what Mr. Lizard was seeing.

“Perhaps he fought a battle where he was unable of fleeing.”

.

“Last rain I sheltered a creature so black

and in return his toes left behind a track.

Then the beetle got hungry and on my trunk he nibbled

and even my spirit he belittled.

With a thud I a had to send him back,

he would not return after such sharp whack.

.

Mr. Lizard, as we all know,

is often moving to and fro

but his nails did not whittle

the white trunk like the silly beetle.

Carefully he climbed up and slow

while his tail followed with a nice flow.

.

Magnificent company with heart so kind

is not something that one can everyday find.

While the rain poured down without care

an enriching conversation they shared

about the heart, life and the well-of-mind

but mostly of the obnoxiousness of humankind.

 .

When the rain stopped the lizard left,

as the lack of dinner had him bereft

but often he comes back to seek his friend

for more conversation and good time to spend.

After all nobody wants to be alone in one’s cleft.

even though Mr. Mushroom is not very deft.

.

The end.

About

Why Sunshower?

I love rainy days. I get to stay home and write on my blogs. It also means extra time to spend time with my pets, watch movies, paint and video chat with my family.

But basically because when the rain pours down is when I sit and write. I thought about naming this blog “while the rain pours” or something like that, but I changed my mind at the last minute, because even though it is gray and dark outside, there is warmth and lively here.
