Cabernet Sauvignon – Luis Felipe Edwards

Cabernet Sauvignon – Chile – 2015

I have realised that this wine is widely served in airplanes to and from Latin America and in many hotels near the airports. I do not find it to be specially good, but it is rather satisfying. However it wasn’t as dry as I had expected it to be for a Cabernet Sauvignon, it felt more like a Shiraz.

Rose Pinot Noir – Bree

Rose – German – 2016

A couple of months back, Grexxen and I wanted to have a Riesling. We chose a magnificent one, Bree. It was absolutely delicious and exactly what we were expecting. However there were two types of Bree, one Riesling and one Rose. And since the Riesling was so delicious, I wanted to try the Rose, ever since then, besides it is a Pinot Noir, how wouldn’t I want to try it?

Of a intense dashing pink colour, it brought great pleasure to my buds. Cherries and other wild berries were dancing in my mouth as this great creation of the germans passed through my throat.

It is giggly and serious, but at the same time, mysterious and seducing. Well balanced and promising to never be disappointing.

Bordeaux – Baron de Lanezac

Bordeaux – French -2015

The only way to get better at wine, is sharing and discussing it with other people, better if they are close friends and extra points if you know them for 8 years, since you first came to Taiwan.

If you have been reading the blog, you maybe have notice that I am developing a fascination for Bordeaux wines. And this one was shared with my friend Sebs, who has a great taste for wines.

The first thing we noticed was the deep dark colour and not aggressive smell. We noticed some orange hue, and little raspberry, but not many other layers.

He then proceeded to show me about “the legs” of the wine. When you take a sip and put back the glass, the wine will slowly flow back down on the walls of the glass, forming the legs. This has nothing to do with the quality, but more with the consistency. Sweeter wines will be more viscous, forming thicker legs, while wines with higher content of alcohol will form more legs.

This is a new way of understanding wine. So, it is possible to know how sweet or how strong a wine will be, without even tasting it.

Thank you for you for showing me, Sebs!

Now, when tasting the wine, we had some differences in opinions, here is the ratings.

Fruitiness : 3.4 / 5 (Sebs: 2.8 / 5)
Sourness: 3.6 (Sebs: 2.4 / 5)

Bordeaux Superior – Champ de Fleur

Bordeaux- France 2012

This wine is double special for me, I tried it for the first time with my good friend GG, but at that time I couldn’t rate it. Then I had it for the second time with Wine Expert Oscar.

Both times, it gave a great time sharing with friends. Strong enough to make its self noticeable, but light enough to be comfortable.  The age of the wine probably helped in being so pleasant, 2012 is not too old, but older than most other Bordeaux, we have here.

Cabernet Sauvignon – Earthbound

Cabernet Sauvignon – South Africa – 2015

In my attempt to try so many other different kinds of wines, I have forgotten to rate and drink more of the classic Cabernet Sauvignon.

It is one of the most popular ones and yet it is an acquired  taste. It is usually well layered and high in tannin. I believe that is were the necessity to mix it with Merlot arises, and we get Bordeaux or  other mixes. Once you know what you are getting into when you have it, then you are sure to enjoy it.

As expected, it is well formed and with a nice bold attitude, however it is too young and lacks of maturity, but it was not disappointing.

Bordeaux – Chateau de la Grave

Bordeaux – French – 2014

As it turns out I am developing a taste for Bordeaux.

Before I continue some Bordeaux information, it is a mix between the Merlot and the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. In the area of Bordeaux, there is a river, usually one of the grapes grows from one side of the river and the other on the other side. The “Bordeaux” denomination refers to the area in France, and only the ones that come from this area can be called “Bordeaux”. Very similar to “Champagne”.

The reason I am writing this, it is because it is stated in this wine’s label.

This is a serious wine, not to be taken lightly, although it is not very sour, it is high in tannin.

Fruitiness: 3.4 /5

Sourness : 1.5 /5

Tannin: 4.3 /5

Origin Denomination -les talles

I saw this wine a few weeks back, but it seamed too special and it called to be drank at a special time. And what other moment than to say good-bye to my good friend Grexxen. It has been amazing to share all this wines and adventures with you.

Going back to the wine, look at the delicate flowers on the label. It had to be some extraordinaty. Dark ruby and strong smell. As it flows in your mouth you start feeling the different layers spread and then right before the end, there is honey. honey? I never expected that, it is worth trying.

White Bordeaux – Moelleux

And there I was thinking that Bordeaux was only a reference to Red Wine.

This post is special, because it two of my most wonderful French friends made the honorable selection. They did warned me that it would be really sweet, but I was confident as I have tried many moscatos. I though they were going to be similar. I was wrong!

They are totally different. The white Bordeaux was an incredible surprise, as it was so sweet that that there was basically no sourness to taste and yet different layers of fruits could be tasted.

I personally do not like wines that are too sweet, but this was an comfortable encounter.

Bordeaux – Puisseguin Saint-Emilion

Bordeaux! What a blessing for the world of wine! And, this one was particularly outstanding, as it was carefully chosen by my favourite French friends. It was a lovely movie night!

This wine felt soft and shy but at the same time rather elegant. It felt refined, as its smell was pleasant and not aggressive at all. It was or dark ruby red and well layered.

Personally, I really enjoy how French people are into the Bordeaux wines, and the magical thing is that they never dissapoint me. I can’t wait to get another recomendarion from you guys!

Merlot – Sassoregale

It’s a dark shadowy night, no one in the street but the wind. You are alone at home, you try to sleep but something’s on your mind. You feel something approaching, the doors slides open. You want to open yours eyes but you can’t. You hear an animal, you think it’s an owl, it might an owl…….

Don’t worry, it was just a movie, mystery, suspense movie. And there was a perfect companion for it, this beguiling Merlot.

Let me start saying the label was certainly the detail that lured us to get it, just like the movie, it felt mysterious. Upon opening it, we found out that it was absolutely delicious, however a little too strong for a merlot. We tried chilling it, but we weren’t too careful and it became too chilled. It was tasteless! So we had to wait until it got warmer.

By this time, the movie was more than half way. But the wait was worthy, it turned in to a fine wine that I truly recommend but be prepared for a merlot with character.

Merlot-Long Country

Playful! That is the perfect word to describe this wine. And it is exactly how it makes you feel.

As a merlot, it is low in Tannin, which is a characteristic feature, but I would have expected it to be more layered. It is a two year old wine, and it was too flat, perhaps if it is aged for longer time.

Either way, it is a great choice to share with friends and spend a great time.

Bordeaux Supérieur

This post is special is a special one. I needed special guests in order to do it.

This is wine is also not sold in Taiwan, just like CASTELMAURE, it was brought directly from France. And the thing is, French wines are a piece of art. There is nothing simple about them and when done properly, they are an adventure for one’s senses.  This beauty was not the exception.

Dark beautiful ruby and strong steady smell. High in tannin but well balance so that it agrees with your paladar. With many different layers so that you can feel the different grapes and fruits of the Bordeaux region. Lovely!

Sourness : 3.8/5

The only reason I have to rate this awesomeness a little harsh, is because I know that France has higher standards. For Taiwan, I would rate it about 4.6/5, but according to GG, who kindly shared it with me and Grexxen, it is about a 4/5.

Totally unexpected. I saw it there and I was hesitating. But that owl was looking at me like, take me, take me.
